YOU’RE INVITED TO ATTEND THE NEXT OHIO ICE EVENT:
WIND ENERGY: Opportunities & Challenges for the Instrumentation, Controls and Electronics Industry in Northeast OhioRegister Now
How can your company take advantage of exciting opportunities for growth in the wind energy industry? What are the opportunities for Northeast Ohio’s instrumentation, controls and electronics firms? Have you heard about this burgeoning industry and wondered how you might participate? Or are you already involved and want to learn more?
Then join us on June 23rd, 2008, as several leading experts in the field present their views and engage you in what is sure to be a stimulating panel discussion about the challenges facing the wind energy industry and the opportunities that these challenges offer to Northeast Ohio’s instrumentation, controls and electronics firms. Panelists include Richard Stuebi, BP Fellow for Energy and Environmental Advancement, The Cleveland Foundation, Dr. Larry Viterna, Lead, Center Strategy and New Business Development, NASA Glenn Research Center and Ed Weston, Director, Great Lakes Wind Network.
Did you know: Wind energy is one of the fastest growing industries in the US. In 2007, US capacity increased 45% on the heels of a 30% increase in 2006. Ohio is well positioned to take advantage of this high growth industry. In April of 2008, Governor Strickland signed into law a Renewable Portfolio Standard requiring utilities to provide an increasing amount of renewable energy each year up to 2025. The majority of the renewable energy is likely to come from wind.

Dr. Larry Viterna
Lead, Center Strategy and New Business Development
NASA Glenn Research Center
An acclaimed scientist with NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Dr. Larry Viterna was on the design team that developed the world’s first multi-megawatt wind turbines. He also developed the aerodynamic model, which is named for him, that explained the relationship between wind speed and power during high wind conditions. In fact, the model, which explains the relationship between wind speed and power, is named for him. He also has been recognized with NASA Glenn’s highest Engineering Excellence award for his pioneering work in fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles.
Dr. Larry Viterna was selected in October 2005 to lead Strategic Business Development at the NASA Glenn Research Center. Dr.Viterna is an expert in leading organizational change and in introducing innovations into new markets using public/private partnerships. Previously he was assigned to NASA Deputy Administrator in Washington, D.C., where he led the development of the implementation strategy for agency-wide changes following the space shuttle Columbia accident. Prior to that, he led the Commercial Technology Program at NASA Glenn, responsible for business development partnerships, technology transfer and intellectual property management.
Dr.Viterna is the recipient of NASA’s Blue Marble Award for his contributions in commercializing wind energy - the most successful alternative energy source in the world today. He has also been recognized with NASA Glenn’s highest Engineering Excellence award for his pioneering work in fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles. He received his doctorate in Engineering from the University of Michigan and has completed executive education in business administration at Stanford University, public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and international management at the National University of Singapore.
